March pottery

I think Karen is going to love the way this sushi set turned out.

I really like the glazes on this little set,the glaze goes from matte to shiny ..

This is what came out of the kiln yesterday. A friend helped me unload the kiln and now would like to be there everytime we unload. She agreed that it is as exciting as unwrapping gifts at Christmas.
Each shelf you take off reveals another surprise. I will give you a call Gina the next time we unload a glaze fire.

Working with Red Clay

These are some of the pieces I made yesterday, I wanted to make some pieces using red clay so I can try
out our new glazes combos on a different clay body and see what we get for results. I had made a bunch of new stamps and have had lots of fun trying them out. Now I just need to clean all the new pieces up and let them dry. On the way over to the studio this little red poll was sitting in our cedar tree, I just had to snap a picture of it to share with you.

I grew up in Saskatchewan, yet when I was young the wind caught hold of me and over time I found myself "moved to live near" each of the three oceans surrounding Canada. Saskatchewan will always be a part of me, because that is where my childhood began. As a child, I played with clay, dug deep from the garden. Now, from time-to-time I use various other mediums, but I always return to playing with clay.I love imaging about the pieces in my mind. Building the pieces seems to be far less challenging for me, than glazing them! Yet, when a piece goes through the creating, building and glazing process and comes out meeting my expectations, then I feel I have won.

Having grown up and worked in the Kootenays all my life, I found myself semi-retired last year and needing something fun and interesting to do. I have always wanted to try pottery, so our good friend Karen took on the challenge to teach my sister and myself. My husband, Richard, was kind enough to give up his workshop to build us a studio and he continually makes improvements for us. We have been having the best time ever since. Caroline and Karen hold down the fort while the Baja frog enjoys the winter in Mexico and Arizona, but she returns to work in the spring. Looking forward to new creations. Have a great day!
