Teamwork
Karen and I had a great weekend doing pottery, after all it was the Super Bowl weekend!
However our plan was to make bakers with both of us passing our piece on to each other.
We each made three bottoms and then passed it over to the other person and they would add the walls. Then we got our piece back and we added handles. Not all of them ended up being bakers, some turned into large serving trays.... What a fun project.
Teamwork at its best!! We want to do this project again when Ev gets home from Mexico.
Karen also threw me 4 cylinders on the wheel which I turned into a small brie baker,a peanut butter feeder,a flowerpot and of course a birdhouse.

Pottery- a lesson in patience
I have been working on some larger pieces and realized that pottery is about learning patience. The studio is quite cool and that makes for a slow drying process. These pieces will take quite awhile before they are ready for the kiln. In the meantime I have loaded the kiln with greenware that is dry and I hope to do a bisque firing tomorrow.

Some very happy kids
Grade 6 students from TM Roberts came to work on an pottery project
with Karen at Parkland Middle School.
The students made bowls which connected back to a study on the
environment. While the students were in their regular classroom they
researched the impact of disposable-ware, particularly plastic and
styrofoam, on the environment. Then, once the bowls were finished
being fired and glazed the students took their prize pottery projects
back to their school and used them for a celebratory lunch.
The students awareness on the impact of disposable ware was heightened
and as a class they discussed more ways they could help reduce the
amount of garbage going into the landfill.

Another glaze firing
Back to back glaze firing again. I really liked how Ev's birdfeeder turned out and Dawn's tray. Hopefully they will take time out from basking in the mexican sun to check them out.I also like how some of the new glaze combinations turned out on the fridge magnets...now if I can just remember what I used???
Not much for sunshine here today, overcast and rainy. It is a good day to go back to the studio and get some work done.
Have a great day

What came out of the Kiln Yesterday
These are some of the pieces that came out of the kiln yesterday.
I really like the square platter it reminds me of birch trees,I might have to try some more of that glaze combination.I also like the rich browns on the textured pieces.
Well back to the studio,I have another glaze fire on the go!!
